Is IGMP a security risk?
IGMP is not a security risk by itself, but it can be exploited by attackers to launch denial-of-service (DoS) attacks or to eavesdrop on multicast traffic.
Is IGMP snooping bad?
IGMP Snooping is useful if you want / need to constrain L2 multicast flooding. It can always be turned off, whether as a workaround, or to troubleshoot why multicast may not be working properly.
How to enable IGMP querier?
Enable the IGMP snooping querier globally.
- Select Switching > Multicast > IGMP Snooping > IGMP VLAN Configuration. A screen similar to the following displays.
- Enter the following information: For Querier Admin Mode, select the Enable radio button. In the Querier IP Address field, enter 10.10. 10.1.
- Click Apply.
Should I allow IGMP traffic?
It's good practice to enable IGMP snooping on all switches and have at least one querier per VLAN as well. This means if any multicast does get introduced to the network it's properly managed.
